by Gabrielle Prendergast

He has no voice, or name, only a rank, Eighth. He doesn’t know the details of the mission, only the directives that hum in his mind.

Dart the humans. Leave them where they fall.

His job is to protect his Offside. Let her do the shooting.

Until a human kills her…

Sixteen year-old Raven is at summer camp when the terrifying armored Nahx invade, annihilating entire cities, taking control of the Earth. Isolated in the wilderness, Raven and her friends have only a fragment of instruction from the human resistance.

Shelter in place.

Which seems like good advice at first. Stay put. Await rescue. Raven doesn’t like feeling helpless but what choice does she have?

Then a Nahx kills her boyfriend.

Thrown together in a violent, unfamiliar world, Eighth and Raven should feel only hate and fear. But when Raven is injured, and Eighth deserts his unit, their survival comes to depend on trusting each other…

Dani - Oh man we are ending on a fantastic cover!! Like wow!! I really adore this so much; it's simple but powerful and really captures my attention.
Jax - I agree, Dani! And I'm really loving the dandelion in the globe, begging for someone to make a wish... or is it feeling safe and sound from wish makers?

AtoZ Book Covers Challenge - You Don't Know Me But I Know You

Welcome to Cover Girls AtoZ Challenge!!
This year, like in years past, we are posting about which book covers we fancy, and our opinions about them.

by Rebecca Barrow

There’s a box in the back of Audrey’s closet that she rarely thinks about.

Inside is a letter, seventeen years old, from a mother she’s never met, handed to her by the woman she’s called Mom her whole life.

Being adopted, though, is just one piece in the puzzle of Audrey’s life—the picture painstakingly put together by Audrey herself, consisting not only of the greatest family ever but of a snarky, loyal, sometimes infuriating best friend, Rose; a sweet, smart musician boyfriend, Julian; and a beloved camera that turns the most fleeting moments of her day-to-day routine into precious, permanent memories.

But when Audrey realizes that she’s pregnant, she feels something—a tightly sealed box in the closet corners of her heart—crack open, spilling her dormant fears and unanswered questions all over the life she loves.

Almost two decades ago, a girl in Audrey’s situation made a choice, one that started Audrey’s entire story. Now Audrey is paralyzed by her own what-ifs and terrified by the distance she feels growing between her and Rose. Down every possible path is a different unfamiliar version of her life, and as she weighs the options in her mind, she starts to wonder—what does it even mean to be Audrey Spencer?

Rebecca Barrow’s bright, honest debut novel about chance, choice, and unconditional love is a heartfelt testament to creating the future you truly want, one puzzle piece at a time.

Jax - This feels so real, like I can smell the fresh grass and the water in the background.
Dani - This cover grabbed my attention because the title conflicts with cover. The title seems menacing yet the cover is peaceful and calming. I want to read just to see how it correlates.

Dani - What a super eerie cover! Very Ominous for sure.

Jax - I love the cool tones of the cover. The cliffs look menacingly inviting, but the lightening warns them to stay away. Fabulous artwork!

Windwitch (The Witchlands 2)
by Susan Dennard

Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.

When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her—yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?

After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge—especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands.

Dani - The title is what got my attention at first and then the awesome cover did. It portrays a strong character with a fanciful landscape and colors.

Jax - This is one wicked looking cover! It for sure makes me want to read this because of the magic feel to it.

Unrivaled (Beautiful Idols #1) by

Everyone wants to be someone.

Layla Harrison wants to leave her beach-bum days for digs behind a reporter’s desk. Aster Amirpour wants to scream at the next casting director who tells her “we need ethnic but not your kind of ethnic.” Tommy Phillips dreams of buying a twelve-string guitar and using it to shred his way back into his famous absentee dad’s life.

But Madison Brooks took destiny and made it her bitch a long time ago.

She’s Hollywood’s hottest starlet, and the things she did to become the name on everyone’s lips are merely a stain on the pavement, ground beneath her Louboutin heel.

That is, until Layla, Aster, and Tommy find themselves with a VIP invite to the glamorous and gritty world of Los Angeles’s nightlife and lured into a high-stakes competition where Madison Brooks is the target. Just as their hopes begin to gleam like stars through the California smog, Madison Brooks goes missing. . . . And all of their hopes are blacked out in the haze of their lies.

Unrivaled is #1 New York Times bestselling author Alyson Noël’s first book in a thrilling suspense trilogy about how our most desperate dreams can become our darkest nightmares.

Dani - Does this cover portray a girl at peace or in turmoil? Whichever it is, it grabs your attention.
Jax - The lights of the city is the perfect background for this cover and description.

Abandoned by her family in Plague-ridden Dominion City, eighteen-year-old Lucy Fox has no choice but to rely upon the kindness of the True Borns, a renegade group of genetically enhanced humans, to save her twin sister, Margot. But Nolan Storm, their mysterious leader, has his own agenda. When Storm backtracks on his promise to rescue Margot, Lucy takes her fate into her own hands and sets off for Russia with her True Born bodyguard and maybe-something-more, the lethal yet beautiful Jared Price. In Russia, there's been whispered rumors of Plague Cure.

While Lucy fights her magnetic attraction to Jared, anxious that his loyalty to Storm will hurt her chances of finding her sister, they quickly discover that not all is as it appears…and discovering the secrets contained in the Fox sisters' blood before they wind up dead is just the beginning.??

As they say in Dominion, sometimes it’s not you…it’s your DNA.

Jax - I LOVE the tagline: It's not you... It's your DNA. That, combined with the calming colors of the cover, make me want to read this!
Dani - I can't quite put my finger on it, but there is just something I love about the cover. It's creepy yet satisfying.

Enjoy!!

Parallel Triangles (Bermuda Triangle)

by Kimberly Ann Miller

How does a cruise change your life? By sailing through the Bermuda Triangle. Carly Carmichael has one goal in life--to perform on Broadway. She refuses to have a Plan B because she's never needed one--until now. When Carly's parents send her on a cruise as a graduation present, she takes her best friend and their boyfriends along with her. Once the ship sails into the Bermuda Triangle, Carly finds herself unable to sing or walk, much less perform. And things just go downhill from there. Hoping for help from the ship's doctor, she ends up with more questions than answers about the mystery behind the Bermuda Triangle and why her life is now unrecognizable. If Carly can't get her real life back on track, she may end up spending the next sixty years trapped in a life the Triangle chooses for her.

Jax - One of my fave covers! The cruise ship at the bottom has a taunting feel to it, inviting you in. The parallel triangles entwined with the dancer is smooth and subtle, making this a gorgeous cover!

Dani – I was gifted, by Jax, Kimberly Ann Miller’s Triangles novel, which I read a while back and just by looking at this cover, I really want to read this one too!

Thanks for stopping by our blog! Come back tomorrow for another riveting cover!!

AtoZ Book Covers Challenge - One Dark Throne (Three Dark Crowns, #2)

Welcome to Cover Girls AtoZ Challenge!!
This year, like in years past, we are posting about which book covers we fancy, and our opinions about them.
Enjoy!!

One Dark Throne (Three Dark Crowns #2)
by Kendare Blake

The battle for the Crown has begun, but which of the three sisters will prevail?

With the unforgettable events of the Quickening behind them and the Ascension Year underway, all bets are off. Katharine, once the weak and feeble sister, is stronger than ever before. Arsinoe, after discovering the truth about her powers, must figure out how to make her secret talent work in her favor without anyone finding out. And Mirabella, once thought to be the strongest sister of all and the certain Queen Crowned, faces attacks like never before—ones that put those around her in danger she can’t seem to prevent.

In this enthralling sequel to Kendare Blake’s New York Times bestselling Three Dark Crowns, Fennbirn’s deadliest queens must face the one thing standing in their way of the crown: each other.

Dani – This cover is a great addition to the first novel. And, since I read Three Dark Crowns, this cover is very representative of what’s to come.
Jax - This throne is inviting in all its majestic glory with the cushy seat, pretty roses, and ivy growing throughout... but with a closer look, it's a chair you wouldn't want to sit in surrounded by snakes and flames.

Thanks for stopping by! Come back tomorrow to find out what the next cool cover is.

Lada Dracul has no allies. No throne. All she has is what she’s always had: herself. After failing to secure the Wallachian throne, Lada is out to punish anyone who dares to cross her blood-strewn path. Filled with a white-hot rage, she storms the countryside with her men, accompanied by her childhood friend Bogdan, terrorizing the land. But brute force isn’t getting Lada what she wants. And thinking of Mehmed brings little comfort to her thorny heart. There’s no time to wonder whether he still thinks about her, even loves her. She left him before he could leave her.

What Lada needs is her younger brother Radu’s subtlety and skill. But Mehmed has sent him to Constantinople—and it’s no diplomatic mission. Mehmed wants control of the city, and Radu has earned an unwanted place as a double-crossing spy behind enemy lines. Radu longs for his sister’s fierce confidence—but for the first time in his life, he rejects her unexpected plea for help. Torn between loyalties to faith, to the Ottomans, and to Mehmed, he knows he owes Lada nothing. If she dies, he could never forgive himself—but if he fails in Constantinople, will Mehmed ever forgive him?

As nations fall around them, the Dracul siblings must decide: what will they sacrifice to fulfill their destinies? Empires will topple, thrones will be won . . . and souls will be lost.

Jax – Very interesting cover. It’s simple, yet affective/effective.
Dani – I just really like this cover! You don’t need a lot to make a big statement, and this cover manages to do just that. I want to read this.

Thanks for stopping by. Come back tomorrow for another riveting cover!!

Jax -  From the water and London Bridge, to the guy with the sword, to what looks like a dark shadowy figure... the cover is creepy and fabulous all in one.

Dani  So much is happening and that is what I love about this cover; it’s one you can look at for hours and still find something different.
