Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Jax's teaser:
~ Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver p. 113
"He and Anna had been huddled over some grayish meat congealing in a plastic bowl, just like I'd expected them to be. Lindsay had wanted to go in and mess with them, but I'd threatened to puke on her new Steve Madden boots if we even caught a whiff of the nasty meat-and-onion smell inside."
Dani's teaser:
~ The Doll by J.C. Martin
"Oh no..." Having shaken off his earlier jitters, Harold the blob was ll bravado again. "Won't want any voodoo hexes stinking pins into me, would I?"

Musing Monday

MUSING MONDAYS is a weekly event where MizB asks us to muse about questions posted HERE.

Dani's topic choice: Describe one of your reading habits.

I am a skimmer. I know, some consider it a bad thing, especially the author but I really enjoy some books more when I skim. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t do it to all books, just the not-so-fantastic ones. Not all books grip my every-reading-attention-span so I skim and it makes the story so much more thrilling, faster, and spellbinding!

Jax's topic choice:  Something else pertaining to books.

My hubby and I sat down to watch a movie on Netflix. When we were trying to choose what to view, I dozed off, because I was so tired from the long week I'd had. I remember him asking if The Road was okay for us to see, and I nodded.... but when I woke up fifteen minutes into the movie, I was like "No!" in my head. I'd wanted to read the book first, but it was too late. I didn't tell him, because I didn't want him to feel bad, so I watched the rest and really liked it, but now when I read the book, Viggo will be who I envision...which is totally fine because, hello, it's Viggo. But sometimes, I want to envision my own image when reading books.
Do any of you like to read a book before the movie? Or do you like to watch the movie, then read the book?

Jax's current read:

Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Pg. 322

Cinder fell into her chair and whisked out a screwdriver. It was the most hurried fix she'd ever done, and the foot was even smaller and more uncomfortable than she'd remembered it, but soon she was on two feet again.

Dani's current read:

Sunrise by Mike Mullin
Pg. 254

“No!” I yelled. I pulled my right arm off the block.
The gladius flashed in a huge arc, and I watched in horror as Red severed my left hand just above the wrist.

Musing Mondays

MUSING MONDAYS is a weekly event where MizB asks you to muse about one of the following each week…
• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

I am currently reading Sunrise by Mike Mullin. I chose to read this book because the first two books in the series are amazing. And the reason why I chose the to read the first book in the series back in 2012 (published 2011) is because, not only does the author lives in my state of IN, but I am a huge Apocalyptic/Post-Apocalyptic fanatic. Mike also invited me to the second book release party in Bloomington but unfortunately I had prior engagements and couldn’t attend. I was not very happy about it either.

What do I think of it so far? In a single word… INCREDIBLE! It’s got adventure, love, despair, a touch of horror and Sunrise is fast paced – no dull moments. I literally GOL - gasped out loud. The whole series is written at a breakneck pace and far from predictable.

I am usually a skimmer but skimming is not allowed in a series when every tidbit of it has juicy info. And every character is important – and that’s hard to come by.

My mind tends to drift . Ex: I will have read three pages, and then have to go back and reread those pages because my mind was elsewhere. :/ It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen enough to where I'm like what the heck?!
But then, there are other times where I get so wrapped up in a book that the above isn't an issue, so those times are great!

Characters with author Nicole Zoltack

Hi, everyone, Nicole Zoltack here, author of White Hellebore. I have a few characters here from the story I'd like you to meet.
First, there's Nicholas—
Nicholas Adams: AKA Black Hellebore.
Julianna Paige: Yes, don't forget.
Me: Um, yeah, don't think I'm going to. So, Julianna, why don't you tell everyone who you are?
Julianna: I'm the sheriff of Falledge. I basically keep everyone in line.
Nicholas: Except for me.
Julianna: Or so you think.
Me: *laughs* You would think you two have been together forever instead of a month or so.
They're both smiling and I'm gagging now.
Me: So you're both over Nicholas loving Justina?
Nicholas: It's not that I'm over Justina. I'll always love her.
Julianna: And I'll always love her too. You can't just get over your twin dying.
Nicholas: My heart is big enough to love them both. Yes, I miss Justina every day. Julianna does too. But just because she's dead doesn't mean we can't continue to live. It's taken me a long time to get to this point.
Me: Back to the Black Hellebore, you've just defeated Skull Krusher. What's next? Disney World?
Nicholas: Whatever it takes to keep Falledge safe.
Julianna: Which means guarding a priceless statue at the museum.
Nicholas: *grumbles* Babysitting?
Julianna: You need a real job. There have been so few crimes since Skull Krusher. You can't just sit around doing nothing. Or you could study more for your GED.
Nicholas: Sure. After we eat. How about some pizza?
The two start to leave, walking hand in hand.
Me: Wait, guys, I have more questions! Guys? At least save me a slice!

BLURB:

After destroying Skull Krusher, Nicholas Adams thinks Falledge is safe and becomes a security guard at the museum, watching a valuable statue. Unfortunately, the Egyptian statue houses the soul of a scorned witch, biding her time to have her revenge on the descendants of her cheating lover.

Kiya the witch isn't the only new foe in town as the drug that created Skull Krusher has now transformed a scientist into yet another monster, forcing Nicholas to don his Black Hellebore mask again and save Falledge.

Nicholas has no help this time as Kiya gains possession of his love Julianna's body and brings the soul of Justina, Nicholas's high school sweetheart and Julianna's twin, with her. Despite himself, Nicholas is torn between the sisters. If he can't stop the fiends from taking over the world and destroying humankind, he'd never be able to find lasting, true love.
